ASHEVILLE, N.C. — October 9, 2026 — UNC Asheville’s Department of Art & Art History will welcome internationally exhibited sculptor Ledelle Moe to campus this fall as an Artist-in-Residence at Owen Hall.

The public will have an opportunity to see Moe’s work and meet the artist during an opening reception from 4–6 p.m., October 16 at the Owen Hall Sculpture Garden and Window Gallery. The reception will also celebrate the opening of “In the Round: 3rd Biennial Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition” at UNC Asheville.

Moe, who is the juror for this year’s outdoor sculpture competition, will spend two weeks at Owen Hall working alongside UNC Asheville students. During her residency, she will conduct workshops, interact with students, and create new sculptural work. A new installation created by Moe will also be exhibited in the Owen Hall Window Gallery.

For “In the Round,” Moe selected seven works that will be displayed for two years around the newly renovated Owen Hall. Following a juror’s walk, cash prizes will be awarded.

Moe’s residency provides an opportunity for UNC Asheville students to engage directly with a practicing artist and juror while she develops new work on campus. Her workshops and interactions with students will complement the exhibition and offer insight into the creative process behind the sculptures on view.

The “In the Round” exhibition and Artist-in-Residence program at Owen Hall are made possible through generous support from the Windgate Charitable Foundation.

“Support from the Windgate Charitable Foundation has been a game-changer for our department, with an impact that reaches across our programs,” said Chair & Associate Professor of Art and Art History, Jackson Martin. “The Artist-in-Residence program brings renowned artists to campus for extended residencies, giving students opportunities to engage with professional artists through classes, workshops, demonstrations, and conversations. ‘In the Round’ builds on that experience by showing students what a career as a professional artist can look like after graduation, while bringing exceptional contemporary sculptures to the entire University community.”

The exhibition continues a biennial series that has brought outdoor sculpture to the Owen Hall grounds for the past four years, providing an evolving collection of contemporary sculpture for the campus community and visitors to experience.

The October 16 opening reception is free and open to the public. For information about parking on campus, click here.
