Drake Thomas teaches full time in the fields of cyber security and information systems management. His diverse background combines service in the US Navy nuclear power program, extensive experience with networking and system administration, and ten years of executive experience as Chief Information Officer for a regional healthcare provider. His career in IT included regional initiatives with the WNC Health Network to create a shared medical record across 17 counties in WNC. He served as a founding employee and technical advisor for the Education and Research Consortium and continues to work with local employers to assist in placing graduates of various academic programs into full-time employment. He currently leads the Cyber / Systems Security program at A-B Tech in Asheville.

Innovation and creativity are hallmarks of his approach to teaching in these rapidly changing fields. His integration of proven processes alongside industry standard best practices combines with a fearless curiosity to bend new solutions to solve old problems, or to bend traditional solutions to solve new ones. Areas of special interest include cyber security ethics, data privacy, technology life cycle management, and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards for technology-based industries.
