David Ramsey received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from The Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. degree from The University of Michigan – all in Mechanical Engineering.  His industrial R&D experience – spanning nearly 30 years – was entirely with Bell Laboratories, first as a division of AT&T, and later as part of Lucent Technologies and Alcatel-Lucent.

Early years at Bell Labs were in a Development organization, where he was responsible for the physical design of optoelectronic transmitters and receivers targeting the datacom market.  This included all the process development and automation work needed to transition these designs into high volume manufacture at AT&T Microelectronics.

Most of the years, however, were within Bell Labs Research.  Working within various multidisciplinary teams, he continued with physical design efforts surrounding optical transmitters and receivers, but targeting the highest possible bit rates and data throughput for telecom applications.  Roles included Member of Technical Staff, Distinguished Member of Technical Staff, and Technical Manager.  A number of U.S. Patents resulted as part of his efforts.
