Hi! I’m Katie, the Clinical Director at the UNC Asheville Counseling Center. I know that reaching out for counseling can feel intimidating, and I’m glad you’re here.

I earned my Master of Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work and have spent the past 15+ years working in higher education and mental health. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of supporting people through anxiety, trauma, grief, identity exploration, relationship challenges, substance use concerns, and life’s many transitions.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and down-to-earth. I don’t believe you need to have everything figured out before coming to counseling-that’s what we’re here for. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, questioning who you are, or looking for someone to help you sort through life, I hope to create a space where you feel heard, respected, and supported.

As Clinical Director, I’m also passionate about making sure our Counseling Center is a place where every student feels welcome and can find the support they need.

When I’m not at work, you’ll probably find me riding my bike, trying a new restaurant, writing, or making an elaborate dessert instead of doing whatever I was supposed to be doing (I call it “procrasti-baking!”).
