Regine Criser, Ph.D.

Bio

I’m Regine Criser and I’m the Assistant Provost of Student Success and Engagement here at UNCA. I moved to the United States from Germany in 2006 and earned my M.A. in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Kansas and my Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. I joined UNCA in 2013 as a faculty member in the Department of Languages and Literatures.

As the Assistant Provost, I provide strategic leadership for all matters related to student success and engagement at the university working closely with deans, department chairs, faculty, and other internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate initiatives, policies, programs, services, and activities to enhance student success. I work to develop and implement inclusive and innovative strategies, services, activities, and opportunities to increase student engagement, academic progression, academic support, career planning and development, and experiential learning while fostering a sense of belonging for all students. I have the honor of providing supervision and leadership to the Academic Support Center, Academic Advising, the Writing Center, Career Development, Honors Program, Study Abroad, the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities Program, the Key Center, PLACE-based core curriculum, IGNITE, First Year Experience, QEP and PALS, and also the STEAM studio.

When possible, I still enjoy teaching, mostly First-Year Seminars and German classes, and when I’m not working with students, staff, and faculty, I enjoy reading, puzzling, cooking, and of course spending time with my family!
