Bio

Dr. Konz is a long-standing educator and leader at UNC Asheville. He joined the Economics department in 1996 and has taught Macroeconomics, International Economics, Economic Development, Humanities, History of Economic Thought, and Ethics and Social Institutions. 

Dr. Konz currently serves as the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and the Director of Institutional Research. Prior to these roles, he served as Dean of Social Sciences from 2010-2019. As Associate Provost, he is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing academic policies and strategic initiatives for the division of academic affairs . Dr. Konz works closely with the Faculty Senate, the UNC System Office, SACSCOC, and senior leadership to help guide the university’s academic initiatives, foster a collaborative environment, and promote continuous improvement in academic policies to support student success, faculty development, and the institution’s long-term goals.

As Director of Institutional Research, Dr. Konz oversees institutional data and analytics, providing data for the UNC System Office, IPEDS, and the public as well as conducting analysis of data for campus leadership and the broader campus community.

In his spare time, Dr. Konz is a singer with the Asheville Vocal Ensemble, a local professional singing group, and the choir of the Episcopal Cathedral of All Souls. He also enjoys gardening, cycling, cooking, and spending time with his wife Kate and children Nick and Flora.
