Disciplinary Actions, Suspension, and Dismissal Policy for SHRA Employees

I. Purpose

The policy provides employees Subject to the Human Resources Act (SHRA) and University management (i.e. supervisors, department heads, division vice chancellors and the chancellor) a fair, clear and useful tool for correcting and improving performance problems, as well as to provide a process to assist management in addressing instances of unacceptable personal conduct.

Supervisors are expected to consult with the Employee Relations Manager in the Office of Human Resources at the onset of any employee performance or conduct deficiencies to discuss both formal and informal methods for resolving such workplace issues.

II. Scope

This policy applies to employees Subject to the Human Resources Act (SHRA) who have attained career status in a permanent position that is Subject to the Human Resources Act (SHRA).

This policy does not apply to non-career state employees; however, it is recommended that management provide the opportunity for notice and correction of unsatisfactory job performance for non-career state employees.
