Ansley Stuart (’13) received her MSIS (’15) from SUNY Albany and now works as a Clinical Information Librarian with the University of Louisville.

Hannah Campbell, Class of ’14, has worked at Malaprops for over 15 and is obtaining a Master’s degree in Human Resources at Georgetown University.
Carolyn Schweitz ( ‘19) is working on her MS in Publishing at New York University. She is an author assistant and social media specialist at Gold Leaf Literary and is enjoying facilitating writer retreats.
Rachel Grossman (‘10) was the very first graduate of the Religious Studies program. She recently earned her JD (UNC ‘21) and served as editor-in-chief of the first NC Civil Rights Law Review
Cameron Moore (‘16) is a Charlotte-based singer-songwriter who has released a full length album, 5-song EP, and several singles.
Danny Francis Szemple (‘13) attended Wake Forest (MDiv ‘17) after graduation and has published several books of poetry contemplating life through noticing the small beautiful details in the every day.

Religious studies majors travel far and wide to experience religion as a lived phenomenon in various cultures, including right here in Asheville. Our students hone their skills in traditional classroom settings and we encourage them to develop their expertise through hands-on learning experiences.

From the impressive Roman Catholic Basilica of St. Lawrence in downtown Asheville to numerous Buddhist retreat centers in the surrounding countryside and from Wiccan and Celtic circles to various chanting and meditation groups, Asheville offers a diversity of religious life that is unusual for a town its size.
Student Clubs & Orgs
UNC Asheville’s Alpha Lambda Iota chapter of the national honor society Theta Alpha Kappa recognizes academic achievement in the study of religion. Theta Alpha Kappa encourages its members to continue striving for excellence in their academic pursuits and to contribute to the broader understanding of religious studies. Our chapter maintains a commitment to nurturing the talents and dedication of our students, and we look forward to welcoming new members who share our passion for this field of study.
