As a drama major, gain practical experience through internships. These opportunities allow you to refine your skills in real-world settings, preparing you for a successful career in theatre. We offer student positions in the scene shop, house electrics, and the costume shop, as well as internships with local theatre companies.

Student Orgs

Join one of our student theatre organizations to put your skills into action. Whether you’re interested in acting, directing, or technical production, these groups offer a platform for creative expression. Engage with like-minded peers and bring compelling stories to life on stage. Drama majors can grow their technical theatre skills by joining the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), while Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre honor society, produces student shows and events.

Theatre Partnerships

The Drama Department maintains a high level of engagement in various theatre organizations in Asheville, such as the Southern Appalachian Repertory Company, Flat Rock Playhouse, North Carolina Stage Company, Diana Wortham Theatre, and Asheville Community Theatre. 

These theatre companies have collaborated with the Department to create several productions, and our faculty has been instrumental in providing their expertise in design, directing, and acting. 

Additionally, you have the opportunity to serve as an intern and artist with these partners and work with aspiring young individuals interested in learning the intricacies of theatre and what it takes to be a part of a theatrical production.
