Shaquana Suggs joined UNCA as a Career Coach early Fall '23. Before she joined the Career Center, she taught Humanities and First Year Writing at several colleges and universities in the NC region, including some public and private institutions. She received her Masters degree from UNC Greensboro in English and double-majored in English and Studio Art as an undergraduate. Her varied experiences in higher education fuel her passion to increase student engagement with student affairs and to infuse equity and inclusion into everyone's lived experiences. Her book, Honey and Vinegar, explores the bittersweet truths about thriving in academia. She's originally from Wilmington, North Carolina, but grew up in Durham, NC (Go Duke!). In her spare time, she enjoys being a homeowner in Morganton, NC with her two cats, trivia nights, hiking and camping, and enjoying local live scenes.
