A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, Robby began his banking career with Central Fidelity Bank in Richmond, Virginia as a commercial lender.  In February 1990 he joined First Union in Charlotte, as a Small Business Lender.  In 1993 he began a new career in banking, joining the Community Development area and heading Community Development for First Union in Tennessee, which involved developing relationships with not-for-profit organizations working with low and moderate income individuals. In 1996, he returned to Charlotte joining the Corporate Community Development Office with First Union.

In 2000 he became a Community Affairs Officer, which involved the management and distribution of First Union’s Foundation funds. After the merger with Wachovia, he remained with the Foundation until January 2004 when he accepted the opportunity to become the Community Market President for Asheville/Buncombe County for Wachovia. Since being in Asheville, his team built the second largest Business Banking portfolio in a 6 market area with the highest profitability. In 2015, he joined PNC Bank as a Commercial Relationship Manager.

Robby is married to Michelle and they have two daughters, Alicia and Lauren, 25 and 23. He has served on a number of boards, including the UNC Asheville Board of Trustees, the Grove Arcade Public Market Foundation, the YMCA of WNC Board, and the Brevard Music Center Board.
