A native of North Dakota, Rick earned a Masters Degree in Economics from North Dakota State University and served in the US Army Adjutant General Corps.

Rick retired as President & CEO of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce in 2010. Previously, he served as President of the Greater Binghamton Chamber and Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce.

Rick has served on multiple area boards including the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville-Buncombe  County, the YMCA of Western North Carolina, the United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County, Inc., the North Carolina Arboretum and WCQS Radio. Rick was also an active participant in several professional affiliations including the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, the North Carolina State Chamber, as former director of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, and as former director of the Carolina’s Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives.

Rick and his wife Janna have two children.
