Nicolle Miller, MS, MPH, RD, LDN, joined the UNC Asheville community in October 2016 as the Director of State and Community Collaborations of the N.C. Center for Health & Wellness (NCCHW). In this role, Nicolle facilitates partnership development among multi-sector organizations to build a culture of health, advance health equity, and improve community conditions that impact health outcomes in North Carolina. Nicolle manages the Healthy Aging NC Resource Center, which serves as a single point of entry for evidence-based health promotion programs offered in community sites across North Carolina. These include programs such as: A Matter of Balance, Enhance Fitness, Tai Chi for Arthritis, YMCA Moving for Better Balance, the Otago Exercise Program, Walk With Ease, and the Chronic Disease Self-Management Education suite of programs. She directs two statewide grants funded by the CDC and the Administration for Community Living.

Prior to joining NCCHW, Nicolle spent five years at the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Aging and Adult Services managing health promotion and nutrition services. Nicolle brings to UNC-Asheville a variety of experiences leading public health initiatives across the lifespan and among diverse populations. Through her experiences working in medical nutrition therapy, clinical nutrition, public health, and food insecurity (both hunger relief and food stamp nutrition education), Nicolle has used her passion for health equity and knowledge of the Spanish and Portuguese language to improve health among populations in rural Appalachia, Latinx communities in the US and abroad, and a refugee neighborhood in Vermont.

In her free time, Nicolle enjoys playing soccer competitively and being active outdoors with her family. Her personal efforts for herself and her family center around the Latin phrase “Mens sana in corpore sano,” which translates to “a healthy mind in a healthy body."
