Hello!  My name is Margaret Steele.  I am a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine with a clinical focus on nutrition and lifestyle medicine as well as gastroenterology, endocrinology, environmental medicine, and chronic disease prevention and treatment.  I have always been passionate about the naturopathic principle, docere – physician as teacher.  I am excited to use this passion to teach the Health and Wellness students at my alma mater about nutrition science, healthy lifestyles, and the use of food as medicine.

I am particularly interested in the intersection between nutrition, regenerative agriculture, and climate change.  I believe that the choices we make every day surrounding food can greatly impact not only our personal health, but the health of others and our mutual environment.

I care deeply about food justice and am looking forward to working with colleagues, students, and the greater community to help transform food culture to be healthier and more just in the city of Asheville.

I live in west Asheville with my husband and two children. I love perusing local farmer’s markets, hiking in our beautiful forests, and finding new swimming holes to enjoy with my family and friends.  I am also a recreational fermenter and love to have fun in the kitchen!
