Ellen Bailey is the Falls Prevention Program Manager for the Healthy Aging NC initiative at the NC Center for Health and Wellness at UNC Asheville. As part of the Falls Prevention grant awarded through the Administration on Community Living, Ellen works with the Healthy Aging NC team to promote evidence-based falls prevention programs across North Carolina, to support regional and state falls prevention coalitions, and to develop clinical-community connections.

Prior to joining the Healthy Aging NC team at the NCCHW, Ellen taught French, Spanish and Health and Wellness Promotion courses at UNC Asheville. During this time, she also completed her Master of Public Health at the UNC Gillings School of Public Health and partnered with community organizations on several initiatives, such as the Salsa, Salud y Sabor pilot program with the YWCA, the Latino Health Promotion Partnership, the Aston Park Fit Community Collaborative, and other community engagement projects focused on improving the health of all. Ellen began her professional career in exercise science as a research assistant in biomechanics. Working with older adults with osteoarthritis of the knee, she assisted in evaluating gait mechanics, balance, and the effectiveness of structured exercise in improving mobility and decreasing pain. As a NC native, she is thrilled that her career has come full circle to work once again on improving health outcomes and the quality of life of older adults in NC through Falls Prevention.

Ellen enjoys hiking, cycling, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
