    Bio

Elizabeth Saxman Underwood earned a B.A. in literature from UNC Asheville in 2001 and subsequently worked for several years at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce. She earned a master’s degree in higher education at the University of Arkansas in 2005 and completed a Ph.D. in public policy, also at the University of Arkansas, in 2012. In 2013, she earned a Fulbright Scholarship to study higher education in Germany.

Elizabeth returns to Asheville coming from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, where she has served as associate vice chancellor for government and university relations.  Elizabeth brings over a decade of service in the alumni relations profession, as she previously served UAFS as executive director of alumni affairs and the University of Arkansas as associate director of alumni affairs.  Elizabeth was active in the Fort Smith and Fayetteville communities and held several board positions with Rotary, Medical Supplies Network Inc., and other non-profit organizations.

Elizabeth's mantra is "work hard, play hard". When she is not serving UNC Asheville, you might find her on a local mountain or river; she enjoys snowboarding, hiking, whitewater kayaking, and camping.
