I graduated from the HWP Program at UNCA in May 2019 during the Spring Semester. I just recently landed a position as Competitive Sports Coordinator for St. Cloud State University. It truly is my dream occupation. Seeing how students on campus are impacted positively from the services I provide them whether it be diversity/inclusion training, leadership development training, fundraising advising, mentoring, or wellness check-ins is what inspires me to do my work. What also inspires me to do my work is to see that the department I work for in higher education campus recreation plays such a vital role in the student experiences and contributes to the different dimensions of health for students. In the Fall of 2021 I will be a doctoral student in Higher Education Administration at St. Cloud State University.

It's amazing what good people can help you accomplish in life. You can't do everything on your own. Sometimes you need a team that can help push you to greatness. The environment and family atmosphere the HWP department offers makes you feel at home and valued. The professors were always there to listen to me with an open-door policy. I didn't know what I wanted to do within the health world until in my senior year I realized that doing what I was highly involved with on campus could turn into a career. However, those community learning experiences where professors push students to go out into the community and learn outside of the classroom made such an impact on me. The option to do research or internship was amazing because I learned so much through my internship in senior year and this got me to where I am now through the connections and relationships I built at that time. Some advice that I can offer for current HWP students or recent graduates is: follow your DREAMS and do what gives you PURPOSE. It's ok if you change your mind. In life, we are always evolving. Don't try to pursue something just because it makes you well off financially. Occupationally, pursue something where you wake up in the morning and are excited about going in for work. Because it's your passion.

Outside of work, I love to run! I do more running than I do actually hanging out with people. I love to try new foods and spend time with friends when I do have the time. I love camping and just love being outdoors in general. I miss the days where I could wake up and go to the North Carolina Arboretum to go for a quiet run in the forest.
