Dr. Burris joined the UNC faculty as Associate Professor in fall 2014.  She received a Ph.D. in International Development from the University of Southern Mississippi, an M.A. from the University of Denver’s Graduate School of International Studies, and a B.A. in Business Administration and English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  Her research interests include equity financing for microfinance institutions, development finance, and NGOs and development.  Prior to joining the faculty at UNC Asheville, Dr. Burris was a tenured faculty member at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and was in international banking prior to academia.  She enjoys traveling around the world and has led several study abroad programs.

  • M.A. in International Studies with specializations in International Business, International Trade, and East Asia from the University of Denver
  • B.A. in Business and English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Research in Progress

  • “Public Equity Capitalization of SKS Microfinance: A Post IPO Five Year Analysis.” Analysis of the Indian microcredit organization, SKS.  The research examines SKS’s issuance of an IPO (public equity capital) and the success and challenges of subsequent equity issuances over a five year period.
