Dr. Amy Strickland brings over sixteen years of varied experience in higher education and ten years in the healthcare and biomedical industries to her role as chief of staff at UNC Asheville. Through her experiences as a faculty member and administrator at three University of North Carolina constituent institutions, she has developed a passion for student-centered education, human development, and higher education administration - particularly strategy, planning, finance, governance, and organizational culture.

Dr. Strickland earned a PhD in Higher Education with a doctoral minor in Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation from UNC Greensboro.  Much of her doctoral work focused on theories and practices in leadership development, program evaluation, strategic planning, and institutional effectiveness.  Prior to the doctorate, Amy earned a Master of Business Administration with elective concentrations in finance and strategy and a Master of Science in Nutrition, both from UNC Greensboro.  Her undergraduate degrees are a Bachelor of Science in Biology from NC State University and an Associate of Arts from William Peace University in Raleigh.

As a strategic learner and lifelong North Carolinian, Amy has a first-hand account of the difference quality public higher education can make in a person’s life.  From her first semester teaching at UNC Greensboro in 2006, she has been grounded by an intrinsic motivation to guide students as they realize and develop their potential.  She is committed to the mission of UNC Asheville and driven by the impact education can have for future generations.
