Chancellor Grant Statement on DACA

September 7, 2017

On September 5, 2017, the U.S. Attorney General announced that the federal government will terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. We recognize that this decision is a concern among our students, faculty, and staff, and their families, friends, and neighbors throughout North Carolina and across the country.

UNC Asheville is committed to upholding our core values of diversity and inclusion. We have always been a welcoming place for students to learn and grow, share experiences, and insights. Each individual brings unique perspectives and valuable experiences that collectively enrich the educational experience and prepare our students to thrive in the global community.

We remain vigilant as a connected and conscientious campus community, a community that includes all of our members, no matter what route or life experience brought them to our campus. We hope for a resolution that will allow the dreams of all students to be fulfilled.

We are working closely with UNC General Administration to support our DACA students and will keep you updated as we learn more.

Thank you for continuing to work together to support all members of our campus community.

Mary K. Grant, Chancellor
