Pool

The pool is a six-lane, 25-yard pool located on the lower level of the Student Recreation Center (SRC). The SRC pool is home to Campus Recreation programs and the UNC Asheville Women’s Swim Team. Lap swim and open recreation swim times are available to current UNC Asheville OneCard and Recreation pass-holders only. Visit the Aquatics page for pool rules and policies.


Courts

Racquetball Courts

The Student Recreation Center Racquetball Courts are located in the rear of the building on the lower level. There are four courts that are used for both academic and general use. Courts are available on a first come first served basis.

  • UNC Asheville ID and Rec Passes are required
  • Academic classes have priority of scheduling space at all times.
  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the courts.
  • Roller blades or wheeled objects are not allowed.
  • Non-scuffing tennis shoes only. Hard-sole shoes are not allowed. No bare feet.
  • Shirts required.

Multipurpose Courts

The Student Recreation Center has three multipurpose courts located on the lower level of the building. These courts may be sectioned off to allow multiple events to occur simultaneously. This space is used by the Health and Wellness Department for academic classes, Athletics Department for practice (during inclement weather) and camps, Intramural Sports, and Sport Club practice.

The Campus Recreation Department has the ability to set up the courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, kickball, and indoor soccer. When academic classes are meeting on a court, the court is closed for general use. A facility schedule is placed on the bulletin board at the entrance of the court floor. Access to this space is allowed during operational hours and requires a current Onecard or Recreation pass.

Crowne Plaza Tennis Courts

The Bulldog Athletic Tennis teams are housed at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Asheville. Students, faculty and staff with a valid OneCard are eligible to utilize the tennis complex. Individuals must have a OneCard and show that card upon arrival individuals are encouraged to call the tennis pro shop for more information or to reserve a court. This option is not available to individuals with recreation passes.


Tracks & Intramural Fields

Karl Straus Track

The Karl Straus Track is an eight-lane, 400-meter track located behind the Student Recreation Center. This space is used by the Athletics Department for Track and Field team practice and the Health and Wellness Department. The track is available for use during operational hours by current OneCard and Recreation pass-holders, unless classes or athletic teams are utilizing the space.

Indoor Track

The Student Recreation Center Indoor Track, located on the upper level at the back of the building, is a 1/10 mile track (10 laps = 1 mile). It is available for use during operational hours by current Onecard and Recreation pass-holders. This space is also used for academic classes for the Health and Wellness Department and will not be available for general use during those times. Daily directional signs are posted on the outside doors. Access to this space requires a current Onecard or Recreation pass.

Intramural Field

The Student Recreation Center Intramural Field is located in the center of the Karl Strauss Track behind the Student Recreation Center. The field is a 100 yard-by-65 yard space used by Intramural Sports and Sport Club practice and is closed to general use during those times. During inclement weather the field is closed. Rules are enforced by the Campus Recreation Department at all times. The facility schedule is placed on the exit door of the Student Recreation Center by the racquetball courts. This facility space is available for general use during operational hours and requires a current OneCard or Recreation pass.


Disc Golf Course

UNC Asheville, through the efforts of the Disc Golf Club, opened six-hole Disc Golf Course on campus in Fall 2009. The course is located near Mullen Park. Free discs may be checked out at the Student Recreation Center lobby desk with a valid OneCard.


Sherrill Center Fitness Room

The Campus Recreation Fitness Room is located on the third level of the Sherrill Center. This room houses a variety of cardiovascular equipment (Lifefitness, Precor, and Stairmaster), selectorized equipment  (Atlantis, Life Fitness, Hammer Strength, Hoist and Cybex), free weights, benches, racks, mats and other fitness equipment for general use.

Fitness Room Rules and Regulations

  • No one under the age of 16 is allowed in the Fitness Room or to participate in group fitness classes.
  • Shirts (covering torso and back) and shorts/sweatpants must be worn at all times.
  • No jeans or khakis.
  • Appropriate athletic footwear required. No open-toed or open-heeled shoes. Examples of inappropriate footwear include but not limited to sandals, flip flops and barefeet.
  • No food allowed in the fitness room. Drinks in closed, re-sealable plastic containers are permitted.
  • Alcohol and tobacco products as well as profanity are prohibited and will not be tolerated.
  • Patrons are expected to follow good hygiene practices and be mindful of strong perfumes, colognes, and deodorants.
  • All bags, jackets, keys, and other personal items must be stored in the cubbies or lockers.
  • Patrons must re-rack all dumbbells and plates after using them and return all other accessories (i.e., collars, medicine balls, etc) to their proper location.
  • Do not drop weights at any time.
  • Equipment may not be removed from the Fitness Room.
  • Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items. Found items maybe turned in at the Customer Service Desk.

Montford Climbing Wall

UNC Asheville Campus Recreation has a long-standing partnership with Asheville Parks and Recreation that allows UNC Asheville students, faculty and staff to climb for free with a valid OneCard when joining us on one of your Montford Climbing Shuttles.
