UNC Asheville has completed the soil boring and sampling phase of the ongoing property assessment. The remaining assessment work is now limited to land surveying to confirm the property’s boundaries, which is expected to continue for a few additional weeks. This work will necessitate the removal of small amounts of brush to ensure clear sight lines, with no removal of trees.
During the assessment process, trees were removed to allow soil boring equipment to access the property.
Following the soil boring, additional tree removal has taken place on the northwestern edge of the property. However, this work is unrelated to the assessment. It is part of the University’s natural disaster recovery efforts in response to damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The removal of damaged and leaning trees on the property was conducted in accordance with FEMA reimbursement protocols and has concluded in that area.
The University is also aware of concerns regarding the presence of owls on the property. The University has cooperated with contractors to evaluate this concern and ensure that any nests, if identified, are not disturbed.
We appreciate the community’s patience and will continue to provide updates as needed.
