Students new to UNC Asheville will commemorate the start of the Fall 2022-23 school year by moving into residence halls the week before classes begin, with the bulk of first-year students arriving on campus Wednesday, August 10. Later this week, on Friday, August 12, UNC Asheville welcomes new students to Convocation, a traditional academic ceremony that rings in the new academic year, followed by Rockypalooza, an annual celebratory tradition featuring food, music, and fun activities. This year, UNC Asheville will welcome 528 first-year students and 296 transfer students.

UNC Asheville’s incoming students hail from 26 states across the country, including North Carolina, and seven countries, including Canada, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

Five exceptional incoming first-year students have been awarded the Selby and Richard McRae Scholarship; each student will receive $50,000 throughout their four years of undergraduate study, with $10,000 in scholarship support each year and an additional $10,000 to support study abroad, undergraduate research, and internships, which are all hallmarks of the historically strong liberal arts and sciences education at UNC Asheville. In addition, $30,500 has been awarded in Provost Scholarships to students selected for UNC Asheville’s most prestigious awards. This funding is in addition to any merit or need-based aid.

First-year and transfer students won’t be the only ones arriving on UNC Asheville’s campus for in-person learning this semester. Beginning in September, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will welcome back adults over age 50 for courses in an impressive variety of subjects.

Classes at UNC Asheville begin on Monday, August 15.
