The UNC System Board of Governors has approved UNC Asheville’s tuition and fees for 2021-22 at its February 18, 2021, meeting and instituted a fifth year of tuition freeze for in-state students.
UNC Asheville will keep in-state undergraduate tuition at $4,122. Out-of-state undergraduate tuition also remains the same at $21,470 per year and graduate tuition remains the same at $4,914 and $21,236 respectively.
For 2021-22, the tuition and fee instructions from the UNC System allowed institutions to propose an increase in one fee if it was offset by a commensurate decrease to another fee, resulting in no net increase in the total of all mandatory fees, excluding health services. The health services fee at UNC Asheville will increase by $35 to $403 for 2021-22, as the demand for health services increased during the past few years and especially during the pandemic. The UNC Asheville Board of Trustees approved these proposed rates at its November 13, 2020 meeting.
The Campus Security Fee also increased by $30 to $60, which was approved by a special meeting of the UNC System Committee on Budget and Finance on February 9, 2021, and is effective for all UNC System institutions except those where it would result in a total mandatory fee increase over three percent.
UNC Asheville’s approved total fee increase of $65 is a 0.9% increase in the total tuition and fees.
UNC Asheville did not request a change in other fees, so those remain as follows:
- Athletics Fees = $855
- Student Activities Fees = $791.50
- Education and Technology Fees = $527
- Indebtedness Fees = $394
- Association of Student Governments Fee = $1
UNC Asheville also sets two fees at the University level – a transportation fee of $100 and a matriculation fee of $65.
With these fees added in the total tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates for 2021-22 is $7,318.50 or $3,659.25 per semester (for full-time, 12 hours or more). For out-of-state undergraduate students the tuition and fees per semester (for full-time, 12 hours or more) is $12,333.25, which totals $24,666.50 for the year.
In addition, UNC Asheville engineering students pay a $1,000 fee.
