UNC Asheville earned two spots in the 2022 Edition of The Princeton Review’s "The Best 387 Colleges"UNC Asheville is featured in The Princeton Review’s 2022 edition of The Best 387 Colleges, which includes just 14% of America’s four-year colleges.
For this milestone 30th edition, The Princeton Review curated a unique resource: 26 “Great Lists.” The “Great Lists” identify the colleges in the book with the most impressive history of appearances on the company’s annual “Best of” ranking lists over the years.
UNC Asheville earned two spots on these historical lists – Great College City and Great Town-Gown Relations.
“We are delighted to shine this deserving light on the exceptional colleges that made our ‘Great Lists,’” said Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review and author of The Best 387 Colleges. “Their placement on these lists goes beyond our high opinion of the colleges: their inclusion in our ‘Best Colleges’ guide bears witness to that. Their ‘Great List’ designations are totally due to the high ratings the college’s very own students have given them over years of student surveys we have conducted for the book and its annual ‘top 20 colleges’ ranking lists in 62 categories.”
Many of the student survey responses make an appearance in the publication, providing information and insight into all aspects of the college experience:
“The undergrad experience at University of North Carolina Asheville is rooted in students’ passion for the world around them,” said The Princeton Review, with students highlighting outdoor activities and the vibrant downtown Asheville scene.
“My professors are the best educators that I have ever had in my entire academic career,” said one student, while others touted the benefits of discussion-based courses and how many courses are taught outside or based on extracurricular involvement and action outside of the classroom.
“I’m very proud to be a Bulldog and serve and interact with this empathetic, driven, and creative community,” said another student, while several cited tolerance, improvement in diversity and inclusivity, and bringing awareness to social, political and environmental issues.
UNC Asheville also earned recognition in The Princeton Review’s Green Colleges 2021 edition and has been named among the Best in the Southeast, which the publication notes is for colleges “that we consider academically outstanding and well worth consideration in your college search.”
