Travel through time and space with TheatreUNCA and their production of the beloved young adult novel, A Wrinkle In Time. Directed by UNC Asheville Chair and Associate Professor of drama Lise Kloeppel, A Wrinkle In Time tells the story of Meg Murray, a teenager transported on a planetary adventure to rescue her scientist father from the evil forces that hold him prisoner. In this special retelling, TheatreUNCA adds digital media elements to bring Meg’s journey to the fictional planets of Uriel and Camazotz to life.

Performances will take place November 17-20, 2022, inside UNC Asheville’s Carol Belk Theater. Tickets for A Wrinkle in Time are $15 for general admission, $10 for faculty/staff, and $5 for students and those 17 & under and are available for purchase through Eventbrite.

“We wanted to do a classic production that explores themes we felt are still relevant today, such as the importance of family and believing in things you can’t always see, like love,” said Kloeppel. “We use digital media in the show to create characters, establish environments, and evoke specific moods.”

“Meg is the oldest child. She misses her dad. She’s scared to open up and be brave about expressing her feelings,” says freshman Amber Brown, who plays Meg. “Then she learns that by loving herself, she has a greater capacity to feel the love that others have for her.”

The cast and crew believe that what sets their production apart from others is the racial and ethnic diversity of the cast.

“It reinforces that family members may look visibly different from each other, but the love they have for each other is what makes them strong and resilient,” says Kloeppel.

Performances for A Wrinkle in Time will occur as follows:
Nov. 17-19, 7:30 p.m.
Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
