Statement on University Policing by UNC Asheville Chief of Police Eric Boyce

June 5, 2020

The Police Department at UNC Asheville is a full-service law enforcement agency whose primary responsibility is the protection of life and property on the University campus. UNC Asheville’s police officers are the primary responders for any incidents on our campus with a mutual assistance agreement with Buncombe County where additional agencies can be requested.

UNC Asheville police officers are professionally trained to meet standards set forth by the Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division of the State of North Carolina. They provide the campus with police protection 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Department was an early adopter of helmet/body cameras beginning in 2013 and offers a wide range of crime prevention and awareness programs that are designed to ensure a continued safe and secure learning environment.
