Isaiah Green, president of UNC Asheville’s student body, has now been elected to lead the UNC System-wide Association of Student Governments (ASG). A rising senior majoring in management, Green has been UNC Asheville’s elected student leader and an ex-officio voting member of UNC Asheville’s Board of Trustees since the start of the school year. Now, as president of ASG, Green will assume a leadership role on behalf of students throughout the UNC system.

“It was really amazing to be able to work on our ASG work even though we aren’t currently physically at our Institutions,” said Green. “The election and the passing of the budget for my administration went smoothly which was not only a stress relief for me but also a testament to how much work student leaders are able to accomplish, even with every roadblock possible put in front of us.”

The ASG president is a non-voting student member of the UNC Board of Governors, the administrative body that is ultimately responsible for policy at the 17 campuses. As president, Green will represent the student voice on the UNC Board of Governors. ASG meets monthly during the academic year to discuss system policies, legislation and issues that are important to students in the UNC System.

Green, who started his own business, Full Circle Nation LLC, at the age of 15, is also active in the Asheville community, previously working with Hood Huggers International to help teach youth learn financial literacy skills and develop their own business plans, and through internships with Hatch AVL and the Dogwood Health Trust. Now back in his family’s Greensboro home and continuing his university classes via remote instruction, he is also continuing his current internship with the Dogwood Health Trust, and is preparing to leave to Boston over the summer for an internship with Converse, Inc.

Green was elected during ASG’s March 28 online meeting and will be sworn in as its 49th session president during ASG’s April meeting. His role with the UNC Board of Governors will begin with the meeting scheduled for May 18-19. Green will succeed Adam Schmidt of NC State who served as ASG’s 48th president. At UNC Asheville, sophomore London Newton was elected by the students to succeed Green as the next Student Government Association president.
