The Great Smokies Writing Program at UNC Asheville, now in its 25th year, is offering summer classes led by professional writers in public performance, playwriting, personal essay, scene development, character creation, the poetry of people and places, and more. Courses will be taught in person and online, with a range of starting dates from mid-May to mid-June.

Gain confidence at the microphone. Learn to develop more effectives scenes in your fiction. Turn your life experiences into memorable poems. Develop a daily writing practice. The best part? You’ll do it all in a supportive learning community with other writers and creatives.

Both for-credit classes and non-credit workshops are offered. For-credit classes carry academic credit awarded through UNC Asheville. The classes are in-person and virtual, five weeks long, and carry 1 credit hour. The workshops vary in length, two are offered virtually and one in-person.

Several Cori Gross scholarships are available based on need. The scholarships honor alumna Cori Gross, ’11, and cover the full in-state enrollment cost for any 5-week, for-credit Great Smokies Writing Program class. For more information, including how to apply click here.
