As part of October’s NC Countdown to College, UNC Asheville will waive application fees for first-year and transfer students, Oct. 19-30, 2020. The application fee typically costs $75.

Students may choose to apply for Early Decision, which gives priority consideration to students who are certain that UNC Asheville is their first-choice university. The deadline for Early Decision is Nov. 1. Start your application at https://www.unca.edu/admission/apply/. To qualify for the waiver during Oct. 19-30, applicants must use the CFNC application – https://www.cfnc.org/apply-to-college/nc-countdown-to-college/.

Regular decision applicants are also encouraged to submit their application early, and all prospective students are welcome to visit campus in-person or virtually to experience UNC Asheville. The next virtual open house Discovery Day will be held in the middle of the College Application Weeks on Saturday, Oct. 24. North Carolina’s annual campaign to support college access – NC Countdown to College – is during the month of October. Activities during the month support high school seniors in completing three important college enrollment steps: residency, FAFSA, and applications. To learn more about the College Foundation of North Caroline (CFNC), which hosts NC Countdown to College, listen to the early October edition of the #AVLBound podcast, which features an interview with Devon McCarthy-James from the CFNC.

In addition, UNC Asheville applicants may be eligible for a $1,000 award, renewable each year, if they are nominated by UNC Asheville alumni to apply. Alumni can learn more and submit their nomination at https://www.unca.edu/admission/financial-aid/types-of-aid/alumni-referral-scholarship. The deadline for referring high school seniors starting college in the fall of 2021 is January 15.

Applicants may also be nominated by their school counselor for UNC Asheville’s prestigious University Scholars Program, including the McRae Scholarship, which awards $10,000 in scholarship support each year for four years. McRae Scholars also receive an additional $10,000 during their four years at UNC Asheville to support study abroad, undergraduate research, and internships, which are all hallmarks of the original liberal arts and sciences education at UNC Asheville. This scholarship is available for both in-state and out-of-state students.

School counselors or leaders from a student’s community may make nominations by Jan. 1. Nominations can be submitted online at: https://avlbound.unca.edu/register/universityscholars2021. To be considered for the University Scholars Program, nominees must have completed their application for admission to UNC Asheville no later than Jan. 1, 2021.
