Alli Marshall, UNC Asheville’s 2018 Ramsey Library Community Author, will give a free public reading on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the library’s Whitman Room.  Marshall will be accompanied by guitarist, flutist, and singer-songwriter Heather Taylor. Refreshments will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the performance beginning shortly after 6 p.m.

Marshall is arts and entertainment editor for Mountain Xpress, and also is a writer of creative prose and poetry, and a spoken-word artist. She is the author of How to Talk to Rockstars, the chapbook It All Comes Rushing Back: Essays on Love, and the zines Curb Service Gospel and Sleeping on Rooftops. Her work has been published in Fredericksburg Literary & Art Review, Shuffle, Blurt! and Our State, among many others. She has won numerous awards for her fiction, including the 2016 Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize and the 2016 Shrewd Writer Award, as well as awards for her journalism.

As the 2018 winner of the Ramsey Library Community Author Award, Marshall has had a yearlong residency in UNC Asheville’s Ramsey Library, with a courtesy faculty appointment that provides a library study carrel and other campus resources. The residency culminates in the reading and reception on Dec. 5.
