YAM! Yay Art Mentors Closing Reception

Join Asheville City and Buncombe County Area School art specialists for the closing reception to an exceptional exhibit celebrating community visual art mentors. On March 25, from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at Zageir Hall on the UNC Asheville campus, K-12 art teachers from public, private and charter schools across Buncombe County and the Asheville area will come together to showcase their art and meet with the community. The exhibit, YAM22! Yay Art Mentors 2022! corresponds with the National Art Education Association’s annual nationwide celebration of YAM: Youth Art Month.

The exhibit is the brainchild of Mark Sidelnick, professor of education and visual arts education license coordinator. “Student art is celebrated every year during March. For this exhibit, I decided to focus on the mentors of all these young artists and acknowledge the dedicated and creative teachers who share their knowledge and passion for art with their students every day in our schools.” He continues, “Some of the folks included are alumni of UNCA and our licensure program. Some of these teachers regularly host our licensure students for observations and student teaching, mentoring them to become art teachers, also!”

The exhibit runs from March 1 – 31. At the March 25 reception, attendees are invited to meet with the artists and enjoy light refreshments.
