Event Navigation

This lecture, part of the the World Affairs Council’s Great Decisions Series, will be presented at UNC Asheville’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at 7:30 p.m. on in UNC Asheville’s Reuter Center, in the Manheimer Room. Admission is $10 for the public, and free to members of the World Affairs Council and UNC Asheville students.

Sonia Kapur, UNC Asheville assistant professor of international studies, will review the continuing conflicts and shifts in the region of India-Pakistan-Kashmir. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi rode a wave of Hindu nationalism to a historic reelection in 2019. His first order of business was to revoke the special status granted to the Kashmir region, inflaming the rivalry between India and Pakistan. How will the Kashmir situation affect the region, both economically and politically?

Kapur has two doctoral degrees – one in sociology from Nehru University in New Delhi and one in public policy from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Her research and teaching have focused on global studies, South Asian affairs, and women’s issues.

These lectures are sponsored by the WNC chapter of the World Affairs Council, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNC Asheville, and the University’s Department of Political Science. For more information, visit OLLI’s website or call 828.251.6140.
