Winter Buzz Breakfast: Local Public Art Initiatives Panel Discussion

The 2021 Winter Buzz Breakfast series, hosted by Leadership Asheville and the Asheville Area Arts Council, will have its fourth and final session starting at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, with a panel discussion of local public art initiatives and exploring what equitable creative placemaking could look like in our community. The panel features government and student leaders. This online event is free and open to everyone with pre-registration here.
The panelists will be:
- Katie Cornell, executive director, Asheville Area Arts Council
- Stephanie Monson Dahl, strategic development program director, City of Asheville
- Cortina Caldwell, adé Project Founder
- Sekou Coleman, executive director, Asheville Writers in the Schools and Community
This four-part series will include presentations from national recognized experts followed by Q&A moderated by Darin Waters, special assistant to the chancellor at UNC Asheville and executive producer of The Waters and Harvey Show, and Aisha Adams, founder and executive producer of The Asheville View.
Leadership Asheville, a program of UNC Asheville, engages participants in collaborative community leadership projects, providing personal leadership development and community education and orientation. Many of Asheville’s civic and business leaders are Leadership Asheville alumni. Leadership Asheville’s 39th annual program will celebrate its new graduates in May.

Jan. 27 – Removal of Confederate Monuments with Mitch Landrieu, former mayor of New Orleans, and author of In the Shadow of Statues: A White Southerner Confronts History
Feb. 18 – Selecting Public Art and Monuments with Paul Farber, artistic director and co-founder of Monument Lab, and senior research scholar at the Center for Public Art and Space at the University of Pennsylvania
March 18 – Equitable Creative Placemaking with Maria R. Jackson, institute professor at the Studio for Creativity, Place and Equitable Communities at the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University
