Who Owns the Bible? An Unauthorized Scholarly Tour of D.C.’s Museum of the Bible, will be presented by Jill Hicks-Keeton, assistant professor of religious studies at the University of Oklahoma. is Heaton is the author of Arguing with Aseneth (Oxford University Press,2018) and co-editor of The Museum of the Bible: A Critical Introduction (Lexington Books/Fortress Academic, 2019). UNC Asheville’s Department of Religious studies provides this description of her talk:

The Museum of the Bible on Washington D.C.’s National Mall was founded and funded by the billionaire owners of Hobby Lobby. From the start, the museum has been highly controversial in the national press and in the field of biblical studies. Through a close examination of the museum’s exhibits and its collection of archaeological and historical objects, biblical scholar Jill Hicks-Keeton will discuss this controversial institution. Whose Bible is represented by the museum? Whose is not? And why it does it matter?

Since its establishment in 2009, UNC Asheville’s Department of Religious Studies has grown from one to three full-time faculty members and has graduated seventy-two majors and thirty-four minors.
