Visiting Writers Series: Michael Dowdy Reads From “Tell Me About Your Bad Guys”
March 4 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Event Navigation
Michael Dowdy will give a reading from his new book “Tell Me About Your Bad Guys: Fathering in Anxious Times,” a collection of essays just published by the University of Nebraska Press in their American Lives Series.
Critiquing his own fathering practices, Dowdy’s essays move between simplicity—being present for his daughter—and complexity—considering the harrowing present of entrenched misogyny, school shootings, climate change, and other threats to childing and fathering with love, optimism, and joy.
The Visiting Writers Series brings authors of note to UNC Asheville for readings and other events. It is hosted by the UNC Asheville English Department. This is the first of two events in the series, the next is a reading with author Deesha Philyaw on April 10, 2025.
