January 25, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Event Navigation

In the first event of UNC Asheville’s 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration, a panel of community and local government leaders will discuss pathways to Black liberation in the contexts of electoral politics and grassroots/community organizing and activism. This online event is free and open to everyone at 6 p.m. via Zoom with registration at this link.

Panelists

  • Sandra Kilgore, member, Asheville City Council
  • Antanette Mosley, member, Asheville City Council
  • London Newton, president, UNC Asheville Student Government Association
  • Bryan Thompson, president, Warren Wilson College Black Student Union

Panelists will provide their vision of liberation and how these seemingly oppositional spaces can be used for coalition building to take a holistic and inclusive approach to freedom fighting in and for Black communities.

Please note: UNC Asheville’s MLK Commemoration includes events just for our students and university community. You can find those events here.
