Activating Indigenous Beats: Hip Hop Nativo Festival

The University of North Carolina Asheville is pleased to announce the “Activating Indigenous Beats: Hip Hop Nativo” Festival and Residency. The week-long event will welcome Indigenous hip-hop performers, a DJ, and mural artists from North and South America to campus to celebrate hip-hop culture and highlight the power of music and literature as tools for promoting awareness about Indigenous and African American realities in Abiayala (the Americas).
On Friday, April 14, at 6 p.m. an outdoor concert will be held on the UNC Asheville Quad with headlining performances by Indigenous hip-hop artists Mare Advertencia Lirika, a member of the Zapotecs, the Indigenous people of Oaxaca, Mexico; Luanko Minuto Soler, a member of the Mapuche of south-central Chile; and Tall Paul, an Anishinaabe and Oneida artist from Minnesota. Asheville’s own Spaceman Jones will make a guest appearance.
Bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating. The event is free and open to everyone.

Visitor Parking
Visitors may park in faculty/staff and All Permit lots from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 a.m., Monday through Friday, and on weekends, holidays, and campus breaks. Visitors are not permitted to park in resident student lots at any time.
Prior to 5pm, any visitor (regardless of their reason for visit) need to adhere to the current practices listed on the parking website. Get your visitor parking permit here
