Drive-In Movie: “Space Jam”

PUNC Asheville will host a free drive-in screening of the movie Space Jam, on Thursday evening, July 30. To help maintain safe social distancing, only 65 vehicles will be admitted and advance tickets are required, first-come first served.

This “Movie in the Parking Lot” is presented by Asheville Parks and Recreation in partnership with UNC-Asheville & Black Orthodontics. The movie will begin at dusk on a giant outdoor screen in parking lot P1 at UNC Asheville, the parking lot on Campus Drive nearest the Broadway St. entrance to campus.

Asheville Parks and Recreation will offer the community a chance for a safe, entertaining change of scenery with a FREE drive-in screening of Space Jam. Michael Jordan makes his starring film debut opposite the celluloid skills of Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes. Jordan must help the Looney Tunes win a basketball game against a group of outer-space creatures who plan, if they win, to kidnap the Looney Tunes and take them to an interplanetary theme park as the latest attraction. Numerous NBA All-Stars, including Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Muggsy Bogues and Shawn Bradley, make appearances. PG, 87 Minutes.

Parking lot P1 will open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at sunset, approximately 8:30 p.m. No “walk-in” viewers will be admitted.PaPP

Food trucks will be on-site with food for purchase, and handwashing stations and portable toilets will be provided. Maintaining six-foot social distancing and mask-wearing are required when viewers visit the food trucks or other facilities. Cars will be parked ten feet apart and viewers are encouraged to remain in their vehicles.
