Documentary Film – With All Deliberate Speed

The documentary film, With All Deliberate Speed, about the Brown v Board of Education school desegregation decision by the U.S. Supreme Court and the resistance to it, will be screened at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, in UNC Asheville’s Highsmith Student Union Grotto. The screening is free and open to everyone, and will be followed by a short Q&A.

2019 is the 65th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that struck down the “separate but equal” justification for school segregation. But the high court’s order to carry out its ruling contained the phrase “with all deliberate speed,” rather than any set deadline, and many communities kept their schools officially segregated long after the ruling and order.

This film is part of a special four-part series at UNC Asheville called The “Other” in Focus, and part of the university’s observance of the 65th anniversary of Brown v Board of Education. Other films in the series are:
