Convocation 2019

UNC Asheville is excited to welcome the Class of 2023 to campus on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019!

Convocation is the special ceremony that formally kicks off the 2019-2020 academic year and officially welcomes new students to UNC Asheville. At Convocation, students take their first good-luck walk past Rocky the Bulldog, a ritual that is repeated at graduation. All students, families, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

Convocation Line-Up and Reception

Convocation takes place in the Sherrill Center’s Kimmel Arena at 4 p.m., and students will line up at 3 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center. While students line up, families are invited to attend a special reception in the Sherrill Center’s Scholarship Deck (located above Kimmel Arena) at 3 p.m. before Convocation begins.

Rockypalooza

Immediately following Convocation, the campus festival Rockypalooza begins at 5 p.m. on the Quad, with food and fun to celebrate the new school year.

Move-In

Prior to Convocation, new students will move in to their residence halls from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. For questions about move-in, please contact Associate Director of Residential Education Blair Jenkins at bjenkins@unca.edu.
