Chemistry Seminar: Chirality-assisted synthesis towards the generation of helical ladder polymers

September 11, 2020 @ 2:30 pm - 3:20 pm

Event Navigation

UNC Asheville Research and Teaching Fellow Kyle Murphy will present a chemistry seminar, “Chirality-assisted synthesis towards the generation of helical ladder polymers,” from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11. This is the first in a series of weekly seminars from UNC Asheville’s Department of Chemistry. The seminar is free and open to everyone at this Zoom link:

Seminar Abstract

In nature, shape defines function, and as such, scientists have long since attempted to mimic nature in a pursuit to reach a similar level of fidelity. Through development of a strategy to precisely control the shape of macromolecules, we can now begin to generate well-defined structures. The work herein will discuss the synthetic technology developed to allow controlled growth of a molecular structure with precisely predictable shapes.

The series continues on Sept. 18 with a talk on the metabolic effects of naphthalene exposure:
