“Celebrate UNC Asheville” Roundtable Two: An Essential Right: Health and Wellness Trends and Research

This roundtable talk will be led by Dr. Rita Charon, Founder of Narrative Medicine; Dr. A. Wesley Burks, CEO of UNC Healthcare; and Dr. Jeff Heck of MAHEC. UNC Asheville faculty respondents include Dr. Ameena Batada, Associate Professor of Health and Wellness; Dr. John W. Brock, Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry and Toxicology; Dr. Amy Lanou, Chair and Professor of Health and Wellness and Executive Director of the North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness; and Dr. Ted Meigs, GlaxoSmithKline Professor of Molecular and Chemical Biology.

Dr. Rita Charon is a general internist and literary scholar at Columbia University who originated the field of narrative medicine.

Dr. A. Wesley Burks is Dean of the UNC School of Medicine, Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs, and CEO of UNC Health Care. He served as physician-in-chief of the North Carolina Children’s Hospital and was named chair of the department of pediatrics in 2012, as well as the Curnen Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics.

Dr. Jeff Heck is a professor of family medicine with UNC-Chapel Hill and associate dean for the Asheville campus of the UNC School of Medicine, which he founded in 2008. He also leads the MAHEC in Asheville as president and CEO.
