Event Navigation

This celebration of Building Bridges’ 25 years in pursuit of social justice is an all-day event on Saturday, May 4, in the Highsmith Student Union Blue Ridge Room on campus. This is a ticketed event; $35 per person; $25 for students; lunch included.

To learn more and register, visit the Building Bridges website.

The organizers provide this description:

For over 25 years, Building Bridges has profoundly impacted people and institutions throughout Western North Carolina. To date, more than 1500 participants have attended the program. Building Bridges of Asheville continues to dismantle racism by fostering relationships that respect diversity, seek understanding and encourage action.

What better way to celebrate the 25th anniversary than having our community look at an examination of the history, the impact and the evolving mission of Building Bridges through a panel discussion and with the history holders of this extraordinary organization.

Keynote Speakers:

  • Jacqueline Battalora, author of Birth of a White Nation: The Invention of White People and Its Relevance Today.
  • Dwight Mullen, founder of State of Black Asheville and Professor Emeritus of Political Science at UNC Asheville.

Community members of color will have a panel discussion about what can be done to support ongoing racial justice work in WNC, and time for Q&A, reflection, conversation, and community.
