Cherokee Heritage Program
The Western North Carolina Historical Association (WNCHA) presents an ongoing series of Saturday afternoon events at the Reuter Center, home of OLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville.
The August 11 presentation will be Archaeology of Mounds and Towns in the Cherokee Heartland of Western North Carolina, presented by Ben Steere Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Cherokee Studies Program at Western Carolina University.
Admission is $5 as a donation to the WNCHA, with the group’s members admitted free.

Bulldog Women’s Soccer Exhibition Match
The Bulldogs, in their first match under new head coach Lindsay Vera, take on Queens (NC) at Greenwood Field on the UNC Asheville campus. No tickets are needed for this exhibition match.

Campus Creatives Exhibition
Campus Creatives, featuring works in many different media created by UNC Asheville faculty and staff, is on view now through Sept. 30 in UNC Asheville’s Ramsey Library, in Blowers Gallery. The works include mixed media pieces, paintings, sculptures, wood-turned pieces, photographs, drawings, poems, and hand crafted furniture which have been submitted from all over campus.
Admission to Ramsey Library is free and open to everyone, and the exhibition is on view during regular library hours. For more information, visit library.unca.edu.

Campus Picnic and Rockypalooza 2018
Right after Convocation, the Campus Picnic and Rockypalooza – UNC Asheville’s celebration to start the new school year, begins. Rockypalooza is a carnival of activities, including a rock climbing wall, extreme air trampoline, obstacle course, and much more.
The picnic and Rockypalooza are open to students, faculty and staff.

The Decisive Dream, featuring the photographs of Cuban-American artist Gory (Rogelio López Marín), has been extended through Oct. 11 in the S. Tucker Cooke Gallery in UNC Asheville’s Owen Hall.
“Gory is one of the most important artists from Latin America,” notes Canejo. “He is both a photographer and a photorealist painter who came to the U.S. in 1991. Using a variety of techniques, his photos extend beyond physical reality. His presentation last spring at UNC Asheville received such a great response that we are excited to be able to exhibit his photographs now in Asheville.”
Gory was a 2017 recipient of a prestigious Pollack/Krasner Foundation grant and his works are in many permanent collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Havana’s Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.

Bulldog Soccer Doubleheader Aug. 31
This soccer doubleheader features the UNC Asheville Bulldog women’s team taking on Delaware State at 4 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. match-up of the Bulldog men versus USC Upstate.
