Faculty and staff partners are a crucial part of helping facilitate career development at UNCA. The Career Center actively seeks opportunities to better support faculty and staff in and out of the classroom. Below are just a few ways that faculty can leverage Career Center resources and support.
The Career Center is happy to offer a wide range of classroom presentations and workshops that faculty can request. This is a great option if you want to incorporate a guest speaker, special topic, or have a day where you can’t attend class.
New “Drag and Drop” Assignments for Your Class
No need to re-create the wheel! The Career Center now offers faculty a Moodle Page with pre-created career and professional development assignments that you can copy into your own Moodle pages. This page also includes classroom activities, resources, and a list of our upcoming events.
To request access, email Lauren DeHaan at email@example.com.
Tech Tools for your Class
This is a platform where students can practice interviewing and receive immediate feedback through the use of AI or instructor feedback. One of the great features about Big Interview is that assignments can be created and given to groups of students. To use this in your class, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can help you login and set up your assignments.
Ask a Bulldog
Many students find it very beneficial to connect with UNCA alumni to network and learn more about different career journeys. Reaching out to alumni is easy with Ask a Bulldog. Students can login and ask alumni any question about career development and an alumni will personally reach out and answer. This is an easy way to encourage your students to start networking!
For any of your students who are interested in gaining international internship/work experience, this is the ideal tool. This is a job search platform that connects students with international work/internship opportunities and includes guides for the application process in different countries. Students and faculty can access this tool within OnePort or login here.
Many UNCA faculty consider a wide range of ways to integrate career into their course curriculum. Below are a few strategies that other faculty have used:
- Extra credit for attending Career Center events and workshops
- Visiting the Career Center during class
- Assignments requiring resume or cover letter review by the Career Center
- Connecting with employers for panels or guest speakers
- Adding Career Center information in course syllabi
There are many more ways to integration various career related topics into the curriculum, and we look forward to supporting you in the process. Reach out to us for more ideas and support.
