The UNC Asheville Bulldogs baseball team claimed a 5-3 victory against Appalachian State on Tuesday, May 2 in the first of a four game homestand for the Bulldogs at Greenwood Field this week. With exam week arriving on campus, what better time to take a break from the books and head outside for a little fresh air and America’s favorite pastime?
The Bulldogs have won three of the last five games heading into the weekend, including the final game of a crucial Big South series win over Campbell in late April—the first time a Bulldog baseball team had won a conference series in Buies Creek, N.C., where Campbell is located, since the 1990 season.
The Bulldog’s victory at home on May 2 avenged an earlier season loss to Appalachian State, with the Bulldogs scoring single runs in the first and second innings before plating two in the sixth and a final insurance run in the eighth to secure the 18th win of the season.
The final three games of the homestand are against Big South opponent Radford. The Bulldogs (18-24) and Highlanders (18-24) will meet on Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m. and twice on Saturday, May 6 for a doubleheader. The first game will begin at 2 p.m. The two teams have yet to meet each other this season, but both are fighting to earn a spot in the playoffs.
