Summer Financial Aid

Summer financial aid awards are packaged separately from fall and spring awards. Types of financial aid available for summer school are mostly comprised of Pell Grants and student and/or parent loans. Students will be notified via email of summer financial aid awards.

To apply for summer financial aid, you must:

  • Have a completed FAFSA on file with the UNC Asheville Office of Admissions & Financial Aid.
  • Enroll in a minimum of six credit hours to receive loans.

Federal Direct Loan Eligibility

Your eligibility for a Federal Direct Loan for a summer session is contingent upon the federal loan limits based on credit hour completion. At UNC Asheville, summer session is a part of the preceding academic year. Therefore, you cannot receive more than the federal loan limits denoted below for the fall, spring and summer cumulatively.

Federal Pell Grant Eligibility

Students may be eligible to receive Pell Grant funding for the summer term if he/she was not full time during the fall and spring terms.

If you plan to attend both sessions, you must register for both at the beginning of the first session. Withdrawal from hours, after the financial aid has been credited to our account, will result in a reduction of aid for any subsequent sessions and charges on your account. Undergraduate students, who register for 6 hours (half-time) and subsequently drop below half-time, will have loan aid cancelled and will need to repay the institution if those loans have already disbursed as you must be enrolled in at least six credit hours to receive Federal Direct Loan funding at this institution.
