The Office of Academic Accessibility (OAA) works to ensure students with disabilities have equal access to university courses, programs, services and activities. Students are responsible for knowing and following university policies and procedures. Students who request accommodations and/or academic adjustments due to a disability are also responsible for following the policies and procedures of the OAA. Current students and families can find details on UNC Asheville’s accessibility policies and procedures, along with student and university rights and responsibilities at oaa.unca.edu.
A significant contributor to the successful transition from high school to postsecondary education for students with disabilities can be an accurate knowledge about their civil rights. We recommend that students read the Transition Guide developed by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.
