Erica Abrams Locklear received her PhD in English from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she specialized in American literature, Southern literature, Appalachian literature, and literacy studies. She's a native of Asheville and is happy to be living, learning, and teaching at UNCA. During her first year she has taught American Literary Tradition, Race and Ethnicity in Southern American Literature, Appalachian Literature, Working Women, and Foundations of Academic Writing. She's currently at work on a manuscript that explores the literary portrayal of Appalachian women's literacies and the identity conflics those literacies can cause.
